MHRA cause Boots to remove homeopathic product and update website

Back in July, Boots had been promoting Nelson's Sulphur 30c homeopathic remedies, alongside a pdf to download to help you choose which homeopathic product you thought you needed, complete with therapeutic indications. (I hate it when I forget to cache a website that's being complained about. Never mind...)

After a complaint from this site, the MHRA contacted Boots and instructed them to change their website, using only the phrase
Nelsons Sulphur 30c Pillules is a homeopathic medicinal product without approved therapeutic indications
according to the current legislation. Boots have since removed the product completely, however the Patient Guide to Homeopathy is still on the website. MHRA are now aware of this and so hopefully it too will disappear soon.

Not that it matters really, because Holland & Barrett are selling Nelson's Sulphur 30c pillules, complete with therapeutic indications, and completely contravening the law (original link to website here). The MHRA are now aware, and the offending site can be seen here.
Indeed, even Nelson's own site (original site here) deems itself above the law by claiming that the product is "known by homeopaths for its many skin benefits" which is woolly wording in my book, but we'll see what the MHRA do.
(Nelson's also promote the product with therapeutic indications on their Nelson's Homeopathy page here).

  1. Genius, the Holland & Barrett site explains you can dissolve the homeopathic pills in water if you want (to make them easier to swallow).

  2. Both Boots and Holland and Barrett have been doing this for a couple of years at least (probably more). I have complained at both but not officially -good to see you have done that!

The Holland and Barrett guy was very amusing when I asked him what the miranda disclaimer meant ("no therapeutic effects blah blah"). He said:

"I don’t know who put it there because I study homeopathy and we never had this statement there!" go figure...

  4. But, but, but, dissolving a homeopathic potion in water will make it more potent! Did anyone think of that!

Careful zeno!!! If you were to toss one of those pills into the Atlantic and dilute even further you'd make it so powerful that it would overdose and kill every marine animal in the ocean :-O

Well, at least that is what I get from reading my homeopathic book.*

*I did a proving. I found a book that causes ignorance in a healthy person. Although there were many choices, I settled on the best I could find: Homoeopathic Materia Medica. I then made a tincture from alcohol and a tiny cutting from one of the pages and proceeded to dilute it to 30c. Then, I soaked a drop of the powerful anti-ignorance tincture into a blank book, and voilĂ  !!! The most powerful educational tool ever created!!!!1!!1!!!

  6. Hi Andy,

The Google cache is the pic at the top of the blogpost. Previously, it had a link to a pdf wth all manner of crazy homeopathic nonsense with therapuetic indications - that's the page I forgot to cache.

    Cheers though,

  9. Oh you sad cynics. It won't matter to you that animals can be treated successfully with homoeopathy - I did it with 500 animals for over 15 years, so are they liars? Keep on plying your poisonous remarks, administering your drugs in bizarre quantities, multi-mixtures, side-effects insufficiently recorded, corporate influence seen too often. Read this on flu vaccines - http://www.naturalnews.com/027239_vaccines_flu_vaccine_.html
Plenty more on that site too....

  10. Oh you cynical lot. Maybe it's irrelevant that 15 years are treated 500 cows principally with homoeopathy, and almost always successfully. Did the cows lie?
Perhaps some of us can see through the commercial pressure, the refusal of doctors and others to report side-effects, and more. Perhaps some of us don't want to have our bodies manipulated by other people's chemistry.
I'm sure that most of you seem no problem at all with plying multiple mixtures of heaven knows what into people's bodies. Just leave mine out of it.
Instead, read this. Something tells me that you cynics will just laugh, which is even sadder.

  11. Did the cows in question suffer from a range of illnesses or are there one or two diseases that mainly afflict cows, and which are fairly common? What is the outcome for the cows, with these particular diseases, if they aren't treated with homeopathy? Will they get better anyway?

Did anyone ask the cows? And what did they say?
